Updated – Zac Efron pulled out of Footloose and Chace Crawford has been signed to replace him.

Zac Efron has been chosen to be the male lead in the remake of “FootLoose.” Kevin Bacon, the actor in the original “Footloose”, is impressed with the casting director’s choice of Zac Efron.

Kevin Bacon said he had met Zac Efron once. Bacon seemed to recall Efron was talented, and a great choice for the role. Bacon wished Efron well in his Footloose venture.

The original Footlose was a movie made in 1984. The plot was loosely based on true events in Elmore City, Oklahoma. The movie was set in a town where dancing and rock music was banned. The kids in a senior prom brainstorm a way to get around the town’s laws. The teens have their prom with rock music. They danced “footloose” the night away.
