Yuri Bezmenov, a Russian dissident, explained how Russia used simple dis-information to mislead the West. There was no espionage involved most of the time but fictional stories were propagated. Just like the way George Orwell warned in his novels, Animal Farm and “1984.” It is a detailed interview and omniscient warning to everyone on how the KGB operates.
