By Clarencia Cynrae on December 28th, 2008Yohannes T Surafel, 24, of Prince George’s County, was charged with kidnapping and other criminal charges. Surafel and his accomplice, yet un-named, broke into the home of an assistant bank manager (SunTrust bank of Silver Spring) and her family. Surafel and his accomplice held them hostage overnight. The next morning, Surafel accompanied the family to the bank to rob it.
The assistant bank manager’s husband, James Spruill, 40, drove the car. En route, James Spruill saw a Maryland State Trooper in the rearview mirror and started swerving in and out of traffic to get his attention.
Trooper Barrington Cameron,22, signaled James Spruill to pull over. Spruill obeyed and when asked for his licence, handed Cameron a bank card. Spruill then lunged into the back seat where Surafel was and pinned his hands while telling Cameron about the abductor and gunman. Cameron pulled out his weapon and Surafel surrendered.
James Spruill said he did what he could to save his family.
Police went to Spruill’s residence and waited. After 4 hours, they stormed the house to find it empty. The un-named accomplice had left.

I his cell, Surafel tied his shirt to the door and tried to hang himself. This prompted Surafel’s removal to Prince George’s County Hospital Center, for suicide observation. Surafel refused to cooperate with information. Investigators located Tadele using a network of connections to Surafel.
