Yang Yun, a competitor in Polar Land, Harbin, China, was at the bottom of a 20-foot arctic pool when she was attacked by cramps. Yang Yun had dove down into the pool without any breathing apparatus. The competition pitted divers against one another to see who could stay at the bottom of the pool for the longest time.

Yang Yun couldn’t move her legs to swim up to the surface because her legs were cramped by the arctic cold water.

Yang Yun said she started to choke and sink lower when she struggled to move her legs. Suddenly, Mila, a Beluga whale, spotted her difficulty and used her mouth to grip Yang Yun’s leg to push her upwards. Mila saved Yang Yun’s life.
