Won Jeong Hwa was arrested in July. Won Jeong Hwa is a North Korean woman who was accused of spying in South Korea. Won Jeong Hwa has been sentenced by a court in South Korea to 5 years in jail. Prosecutors said Won Jeong Hwa used sex to influence the man. Won Jeong Hwa supposedly dated a South Korean army officer and inducing him to work for her spying. The court official in South Korea was not authorized to speak to the western media and he said he could not reveal more details.

The case of Won Jeong Hwa had stressed South Korea and North Korea’s relationship. North Korea denied that Won Jeong Hwa was working for them. In fact, they alleged that South Korea had fictionalized the charges to destroy the image of North Korea. Won Jeong Hwa was the second spy arrested in S. Korea over the last 10 years. North Korea and South Korea were involved in fighting the Korean War. It started in 1950 and ended in 1953. The Korean War ended in a truce. Technically speaking, the North and South Koreas are still at war.
