Willie Mays Aiken, a former baseball player, was released from prison on May 21. Aiken served 14 years on a 20 year sentence. Aiken was convicted on charges for distributing crack cocaine, bribery, and illegal possession of a firearm.

Congress approved new guidelines for crack cocaine sentencing and made the rules retroactive. Inmates serving sentences could get their punishments shortened. About 20,000 convicts were affected and stood chances of getting paroled. Willie Mays Aiken is one of the 20,000.

Aiken said he was excited to get his freedom. Aiken realized much has changed in the 14 years since he went behind bars. Aiken recounted his time in prison as time that went quickly past him. Willie Mays Aiken was so happy to become a free man and said he was blessed.
