What time does trick or treating start? Generally, trick or treating starts at 6 pm. Young children go trick or treating earlier at 6 pm. The older kids can go trick and treating after dark, when the moon and stars come out. You can check with your local listings in newspapers or community websites. Sometimes, there are designated times when arrangements are made for the safety of the children in the local areas. Police are out patrolling the streets during trick and treating hours.
