Dick Tracy, the comic book detective, is in the center of a lawsuit. Warren Beatty is suing a multimedia company because he wants the rights to Dick Tracy. Warren Beatty filed his lawsuit in a federal court of L.A., in November 2008. Beatty wanted to prevent Tribune Co., the multimedia company, from forcing him to surrender the rights over the character named Dick Tracy.

Warren Beatty has owned the film and TV rights to Dick Tracy, since 1985. Warren Beatty starred as Dick Tracy in a film made in 1990. Since then, Beatty has not made any motion pictures using Dick Tracy. Tribune Co. alleged they could reclaim the rights from Warren Beatty since he has not made any movie, TV show or film based on Dick Tracy over a certain period of time.
