Vernon Forest: Boxer Vernon Forest killed

Vernon Forest, a former champion boxer and Olympic games competitor, was fatally shot. Vernon Forrest died in a carjacking attack in northwest Atlanta.

Vernon Forrest was at a gas station pumping his car tires at 11 pm Saturday, July 25, at White Hall Street at McDaniel Blvd. Two black males from a red colored Chevrolet Monte Carlo tried to steal Forrest’s car.

The men ran away but Forrest chased after them. Forrest had a gun and may have exchanged gunfire with the suspects. Forrest received a minimum of 7 gunshot wounds. He had at least one head wound.

Forrest’s girlfriend’s son was in his car at the time of the attempted carjacking. The boy will be returned to his family members.

Vernon Forrest, 38, competed in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Forrest held the WBC welterweight championship twice by beating Sugar Shane Mosley in 2002. Forrest defeated Sergio Mora for the WBC junior welterweight championship in Sep 2008.
