Valerie Abati replaced by Dennis Bowman

Valerie Abati previously told the weather for morning and noon broadcasts. Valerie Abati is replaced by Dennis Bowman.

Valerie Abati joined KDKA from the Fox affiliate in Cincinnati. Abati worked in WJET in Erie and stations in Clarksburg, W.Va., and Chattanooga, Tenn. Abati’s parental home was in Conneaut Lake in Crawford County. (Pennsylvania?) She studied and received a B.Sc. in meteorology from Penn State.
Here are other possible reasons on why Valerie Abati left. These rumors were unconfirmed -
1) KDKA’s morning ratings lagged behind their other news slots.
2) Abati’s coverage on thunderstorms on the 11 p.m. news on June 29. I thought she was trying to give advance warning for the next day ahead but people complained about this.
3) Some TV viewers complained about her voice.
So far, both Valerie Abati and the TV station have been diplomatic. Both have refused to comment publicly on her move.

Are you talking about Valerie Abati? I don’t think you used her name enough in your post. You do understand you can replace Valerie Abati with she. Example: She reported the weather on the morning and noon newscast.

I’m happy to see longtime favorite Dennis Bowman come aboard full time, but I’ll miss Valerie. She was very pleasant and sweet, without a single hint of being hired for her looks (I find the despicable practice of “sexing” up news to be an outrage).
I -certainly- wish Valerie the best in whatever direction her life takes her!

I saw this as a shock when I first read it. I mean she started in September in got fired in July.. Since I want to become a meteorologist, it’ll just leave room for me! But I do feel sorry for her, and if reason number 2 is correct, that is not right! I would like to know if a tornado was coming over my house! And also for anyone who remembers her, Julie Bologna will be returning to Pittsburgh… at WPXI-TV.

I recall reading some gossip about the unscheduled weather forecast at night. People did not want bad news late at night. They wanted soothing news before bedtime. People disliked changes and it was too bad about this. Good luck on your career choice.

There was nothing wrong with her. Cute and bubbly. Wonder what the real reason was. She was just doing the weather not brain surgery. And as far as her replacement…….Wonder what he did to get that job, he has been around the block a few times……..Guess I will watch the weather on another station………..Probably WPXI with Julie Bologna

I will still be watching KDKA in the morning, only because Julie will only be working 5pm and 10pm on WPXI, and I watch that anyway…

Angie, I am going to need you to elaborate on that, I don’t get what you mean … And yes, We do have Sonny, I just don’t like waking up with Dennis Bowman, which might make rating fall even more! (for me anyway) But, once again, with me in the KDKA weather center, I’ll spruce up the morning newscasts! Watch me in about 15 years

No matter what anyone says or thinks the truth is guys like to look at a pretty girl. That’s one of the reasons everyone is excited about getting Julie Bologna back on the air here

I cannot stand dennis bowman! Sorry, but he is more suited for going to schools and talking to kids. He sucks at morning weather. Abati was smart and hot. I guess stupid pittsburghers didnt like her because she didnt speak their “redneck pittsburgh language”. KDKA’s manager Chris Pike seems like a real asshole to deal with.

KDKA blows! they finally have someone smart and attractive, and who can speak correct english and they fire her. I suppose that pittsburgers will always be against those who don’t speak pittsburgese(which sounds retarded anyway). I hope another station here in town hires her.

Well, I switched a few months ago to KDKA cause I really enjoyed her. She was pretty, personable, and downright good at her job. I wondered where she went. Now I’m going back to WTAE. Good move channel 2.

I was glad to see Dennis Bowman return to Pittsburgh. He is a nice guy that apparently got hosed by Ch 11. He does a good job with the weather!
Valarie is a real cutie, and I enjoyed her presentation as well as the “eye candy.”
They both are nice people!
