By Clarencia Cynrae on August 16th, 2009Updated August 16 – The suspect who assaulted Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has been arrested. Police identified him as Anthony Peters, 20. Peters was not charged but was questioned by detectives. Peters had about 12 different addresses which led police on an exhaustive manhunt before he was found. The metal pipe used in the assault was recovered near or in the suspect’s home.

Tom Barrett, the Mayor of Milwaukee, was attacked by a man. Barrett had went to the aid of a woman who cried for help. Barrett was assaulted by a man who battered him with a metal pipe. Barrett was near the Wisconsin State Fair when the incident occurred.
Barrett was having his family outing with his kids and niece. As the Barretts and the cousin of the children were walking back to their car, Tom Barrett heard a woman screaming for help. Barrett called 911 and tried to protect the woman, who is a grandmother, who had her grandchild with her. Barrett was attacked and hit on his head and hand.
Tom Barrett hit the suspect and fractured his hand. Barrett suffered injuries to his head as well. Barrett was hospitalized and his condition was described as stable.
Police said the suspect did not appear to recognize Barrett when he beat him up.
