Thomas McFarland was charged for pollution
By Therese Lisieux on September 6th, 2008Thomas McFarland, 59, New Jersey, was charged with dumping medical waste into the sea.
McFarland admitted dumping overload from his boat. He tossed about 300 medical needles and other debris into the sea. On the same day Aug 22, the needles and debris started washing up ashore. About 200 washed up ashore. The beaches in Avalon were closed because of the debris. There were serial numbers on the needles and investigators traced them to a few buyers. Thomas McFarland then confessed to the police.
