Theodore “Teddy” Graubard: Dalton School Graubard suicide

By Clarencia Cynrae on February 19th, 2009

Theodore “Teddy” Graubard, 17, was a junior student in Dalton School, Upper East Side, New York. Teddy Graubard lived a short distance away from Dalton School.

Graubard was a member of the Math Olympiad. Graubard played football and designed the football team’s website. He was a multi-talented athlete who also threw the discus. Graubard’s younger brother also studies at Dalton School.

Graubard went to the empty dance studio on the 11th floor. Graubard was spotted by a teacher who asked him what he was doing there. After the teacher left, Graubard crawled out of the top of the window and jumped to his death.

Graubard hit the ground near a small group of children playing on the sidewalk. Many children were outdoors during their fourth grade recess time when Graubard leapt down in an apparent suicide. The children were brought inside the school. Mrs Graubard was informed and she arrived at the school, very upset.

i feel so sorry for him! i wonder what compelled him to do such a thing. one of my friends had a friend that knew him personally and said that teddy was not someone who was expected to do something like this. teddy was very smart and had lots of friends. maybe something at his home was bothering him and he felt that he just couldnt deal with it anymore so he killed himself. this is so horrible! if you have a facebook account, sign in and join the group for Teddy. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=56778196439
Its really horrible to think that things like this are happening every single day. one of the scary things is, is that one of my friends wants to go to that school! he’s a little frightened, but he’s still going no matter what. maybe it was the workload that got to him. or maybe he just couldnt keep up or wondered why he was even alive. there must have been some horrible tradgedy in his life to compel him to do this to himself. and, another thing; why didnt the teacher tell him to go to his class, or at least stay with him? thats what a teahcer is supposed to do; to protect the student and make sure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing and if teachers were more careful, things like this might not happen as often as they do. all i can say now is, i hope he went to heaven. RIP, Teddy. We will miss you a lot.

Dalton in a great place and this should not hinder anyone from going. No one will even know why he did it and there is really no use for retrospective speculation. He was wonderful and lovely. That is what we should all remember.

People go up there to dance all the time, I’ve done it myself, and so has he. His presence there was not unusual, and so the teacher’s actions were normal. Stop blaming people, it is no one’s fault.
    RIP Teddy, I love you.
