The Green River Killer was Gary Leon Ridgway. Ridgway was nicknamed The Green River Killer because he dumped his dead victims into the Green River in Washington. Ridgway was arrested in 2001.

Gary Leon Ridgway had passed the polygraph test (lie detector test). Police nabbed him after using DNA evidence to prove his connection to seven victims. Gary Leon Ridgway confessed to 48 murders, committed while he was the Green River Killer. He also confessed that he killed 71 women but police could not verify his claims. Ridgway escaped the death penalty in his plea bargain. There was a TV movie called The Capture of the Green River Killer. John Pielmeier played the role of Ridgway.
