Mullings suffered an infection that went undetected and untreated. It blocked blood circulation to her hands and feet and she fell into a semi-coma for a fortnight. During this fortnight, her doctors had decided to amputate both her hands and both feet. Tabitha Mullings also became blind in one eye. When Mullings awoke, she was shocked to discover her amputations.
Tabitha Mullings has filed her lawsuit to sue the Brooklyn Hospital Center for $100 million. Mullings said she was not given a blood test to check for the infection that caused her feet and hands to be amputated. Tabitha Mullings has started her rehabilitation at Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation to make her as independent as possible. Mullings dreams of walking out of the hospital with her hands and legs. Tabitah Mullings wants to be able to hug her children again.
