By Therese Lisieux on March 26th, 2009

Synsepalum dulcificum has been nicknamed the Miracle Fruit. This fruit has been dubbed the Miracle Fruit as it contains a fruit protein called miraculin.

Miraculin stimulates the sweet taste receptor when there is acid in the mouth. Chemotherapy patients experience metallic tastes in their mouths. Miracle fruit may be able to help them mask the unpleasant taste. These cancer patients may be encouraged to eat healthy diets and regain their strength to recuperate and fight the disease.
