Sunda Croonquist, a comedian, is being sued by her mother-in-law Ruth Zafrin, her mother-in-law’s daughter, Shelley Edelman, and Shelley’s husband, Neil. Croonquist cracks jokes about her mother-in-law Ruth during her shows and Ms Zafrin objected to being the butt of humor.

Zafrin alleged that Croonquist’s website had clues about her mother-in-law’s real identity and she objected. Zafrin, her daughter, and son-in-law have sued for unspecified damages. Zafrin has sought to have Croonquist remove her offensive comments from her live shows, recordings and website.

Croonquist said she would omit the mother-in-law jokes but has refused to pay any settlement. Croonquist’s lawyer has filed a motion to have Zafrin’s lawsuit dismissed. Croonquist and Zafrin will have their day in court on September 8.

Croonquist said Zafrin’s lawsuit has estranged her family. Croonquist’s husband is a lawyer and his firm is defending her. Croonquist said Zafrin’s lawsuit could have broken up her marriage and has estranged her children from their grandmother.
