Steven Jennings, a teacher of an auto shop class, brought a cable TV show, “Drag Race High” to film his auto shop class. Jennings challenged another auto shop class from another school nearby. Jennings issued the challenge to see which auto shop class could build the fastest drag racer in 3 months.

There was a student car race around El Camino Schools football field. Some students were arrested. Jennings said she went to the field at night to stop the students. Jennings denied being involved in the illegal racing. Some parents complained that Jennings was a bad influence.

Jennings was hired under the Oceanside Unified School District and the board terminated his teaching contract. No reason was disclosed to the press about why Jennings was fired.
