Steven Gerrard supports John Kinsella in trial
By Clarencia Cynrae on April 10th, 2008Paul Gerrard, the father of Steven Gerrard, Liverpool’s captain, said that he (Paul) recruited underworld “fixer” John Kinsella to “sort out” George Bromley Jnr, aka Psycho. Psycho had threatened to maim Steven so that he would never play football again.

The court heard this as part of the evidence. It was meant to credit the character of John Kinsella. He has been accused of robbery. The trial continues.

Lauren Ashcroft said she was responsible for jealous Liverpool mobster George Bromley Junior’s death threats against Steve Gerrard. She claimed Steve flirted with her even after they broke up. She said she was too young at that time to date Steve. She claimed Steve and Alex were unhappy together. Her story tells her perspectives so caution might be necessary when reading it.

Steve’s father, Paul Gerrard, hired underworld “fixer” John Kinsella to convince George Bromley Jnr – known as Psycho – to leave Steve alone.
While Laura claimed that George was her ex-boyfriend (or boyfriend at that time) who was jealous of Steve Gerrard, Paul Gerrard claimed other allegations. Paul said that George threatened to maim Steve and ruin his football career, and extorted money from Steve. It sounded like blackmail.
Paul Gerrard said that he had total respect for John Kinsella. Although the police and Liverpool FC gave protection to Steve, George still managed to terrorize him. George did a number of things like he waited for Steve outside his flat, smashing his car, chasing him home after training and other stuff.
Paul said that a family friend introduced the fixer called John Kinsella to him. John assured him that he would take care of matters to ensure safety and return to normalcy for Steve and the Gerrard family. John kept his promise. From that day on, George Bromley’s reign of terror halted. That was why Paul had tons of respect for John Kinsella.
John Kinsella testified that he did speak to George Bromley and asked him to stop disturbing the Gerrards. He said G. Bromley took his advice.
John Kinsella said in his defence that he worked as a debt collector and mediator. He helped to sort out people’s problems. The implication was that he had legitimate work and would not be involved in the robbery charge.
John Kinsella, 43, was accused of taking part in a £41,000 robbery. He was one of the 4 men accused of the crime. A haulage depot nightwatchman was tied up during this robbery.
John claimed that he was in the area of the raid at the time only in his role as an underworld enforcer.

John Kinsella was still under trial for suspected robbery when the police released him from custody at lunchtime. He never showed up when the court adjourned after lunch.
The court case was about a £41,000 robbery at a haulage depot in Grantham, Lincolnshire, in March 2006.
Stephen McMullen, 49, and James Muldoon, 28, were found guilty of robbery. Thomas Hodgson, 29, pleaded guilty.
John Kinsella was convicted of robbery in this case. That was in spite of Steve Gerrad’s father, Paul Gerrard, giving testimony that John Kinsella helped the Gerrad family against a gangster named as George Bromley Jr.
All 4 men in this robbery case were from Liverpool. They will be sentenced on Thursday, April 17, 2008.
