Stephanie Birkitt was David Letterman’s former assistant. Birkitt lived with Robert “Joe” Halderman. Halderman read Birkitt’s diary, correspondence and saw her photos. Halderman claimed Letterman was incriminated in an alleged affair with Birkitt.

Stephanie Birkitt had appeared on the David Letterman Show several times in the past. Birkitt and Letterman had a sexual relationship that ran its course before 2003, the year that Harry Letterman, David’s son, was born.

Stephanie Birkitt allegedly had no hand in Halderman’s attempted blackmail of Letterman.

Stephanie Birkitt graduated from Wake Forrest University in 1997. Brkitt then served as an intern writer for Letterman’s “Late Show” in early 1996. Birkitt then went to work at “48 Hours” and she met Halderman as he was the producer for “48 Hours”. After this, Birkitt returned to work at the “Late Show with David Letterman”. Birkitt was a producer. Then, she applied for the post of Letterman’s assistant.

Birkitt didn’t like the news scene as she said it was too serious for her personality. That was the reason she gave for applying to become Letterman’s assistant.
