Stacy Lannert: Stacy Lannert’s story (photo)

By Clarencia Cynrae on May 14th, 2009

News on March 29, 2009 said Stacy Lannert was released from prison. Stacy Lannert was accused of killing her father when she was 18 years old, in 1990. Lannert claimed she was sexually abused by her father since she was 8 years old. The jury was told not to take that into account on sentencing.

Lannert was offered a plea deal. Lannert was offered a sentence of 15 years in prison instead of life if she pleaded guilty to killing her dad for inheritance money. Lannert refused to sign up for this plea bargain.

Lannert was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Lannert received a reprieve when her sentence was commuted.

Gov. Matt Blunt of Jefferson City, Missouri, commuted Lannert’s sentence in early 2009. Lannert’s original sentence was changed to 20 years and she was eligible to be freed as she had almost completed 20 years since 1990.

On May 14 2009, Stacy Lannert was a guest on Oprah Winfrey’s show to talk about her case. Lannert spoke about killing her father although she loved him.
