Melissa Brandts has assured readers that no photoshop was involved.
The National Geographic magazine’s website loved the Brandts’ squirrel in vacation picture that they published the snap. Due to juxtaposition, the squirrel on holiday looked to be of similar size to Melissa Brandts and her husband.

I think it is faked. If the couple were getting their picture taken the focus of the camera would have been on them. They are blurred, where as the squirrel is not. If the so said squirrel was not to be in the picture it would be out of focus.

No Sandra. Virtually all cameras are auto focus now days. It focuses just prior to opening the shutter. The same is true when you set the timer function — since the user is probably holding the camera and not in the frame yet. The squirrel, being dead center in the frame, is the subject the camera focused on.
