Solarzyme creates carbon neutral green crude biodiesel from algae
By Angie on May 30th, 2008Solarzyme has a new transformation to produce alternative fuel.
Solarzyme produces a type of green crude. It is a liquid fuel chemically identical to gasoline. Solarzyme’s product is independent from a food source or agricultural land. Solarzyme’s invention would be “carbon neutral”. Vehicles that burn the Solarzyme’s fuel will emit carbon, but that amount released would be minimal.
Solarzyme uses algae, or algae microorganisms and a mixture of salt water, carbon dioxide and the power of the sun to produce biodiesel. Solarzyme, like many companies, would keep the exact process a trade secret.
Basically, The Solarzyme method could be using photosynthesis. Photosynthesis absorbs CO2 to produce a carbon molecule.
Solarzyme is one of several comapnies who are able to produce biodiesel. Like ethanol, biodiesel attracts water and thus cannot be shipped in existing pipelines. Solarzyme will have to overcome this challenge. Solarzyme’s biodiesel and ethanol also have lower energy density than traditional gasoline and diesel fuels.
