“Smiley Face Murders” are about young men who have drowned in rivers in the Midwest. Near the spot of the drowning would be a sign that is like a “signature card”. A smiley face would be drawn and left there. “Smiley Face Murders” may be the work of a gang as the drownings were found in about 10 different states.

“Smiley Face Murders” victims are young, college males. The men usually had some to drink before their dead bodies were found in pools of water. The families often refuse to believe the men would have committed suicide in water.

Patrick McNeil, 21, was the first victim associated with the Smiley Face Murders. McNeil was found drowned in Brooklyn on Feb 1997.

Smiley Faces have been found near crime scenes in Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa. Investigators believe there is more than one killer using the Smiley Face symbol. They think the murderers have committed multiple killings on one same night in different states. The deaths could not have been the work of only one Smiley Face killer.

So far, the list of victims that are related to the Smiley Face drownings are:

Patrick McNeill discovered drowned in NYC in 1997.
Chris Jenkins was found dead in the Mississippi River in 2003.
Matt Kruziki found drowned in Mississippi, near Sinsiniwa Avenue.

Kevin Gannon and Anthony Duarte are retired NYC detectives who have devoted their free time to investigate the Smiley Faces Killers.

Detectives are only willing to share these few details with the public. Other cases are still under investigation.
