By Clarencia Cynrae on October 6th, 2009Shyne, a rapper from NY, is freshly released from prison on October 6. Shyne was in prison for 8 years. Shyne was serving his sentence for his conviction on a shooting at a night club in 1999.
Shyne’s mentor, Sean P Diddy Combs and his then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, were at the club.
Shyne was born Jamal Barrow. Shyne was charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment and assault in March 2001. Shyne defended himself by saying he fired his weapon in self-defence. According to Shyne, another gunman hit the two victims and injured them.
Shyne faced serious charges and could have been sentenced to the maximum of 25 years in prison. Instead, Shyne was sentenced to only 10 years in prison. On June 1, 2001, Shyne began serving his sentence.
Shyne worked on hs music while behind bars. Shyne released 2 albums. Shyne also experienced a change in faith and became converted to the Judaism faith. Shyne has changed his name legally and has a new name. He is now called Moses Michael Leviy.
Combs said he was glad Shyne was returning to civilian life. Combs said he had no animosity with Shyne.
