The satire website, The Onion, posted a video called “Gymnast Shawn Johnson Put To Sleep After Breaking Leg”. This is a fake video that belongs to satire, not news. The real Shawn Johnson is very much alive and her family is not amused with The Onion.

The Onion used the parody of the common story line of the race horse which was euthanized after breaking a leg. Humans are never “put to sleep” after breaking a leg.

The Onion stipulates its website is unsuitable for readers below 18. Young readers may not be able to discern that the website contains fake “news” items.
