Sgt Slaughter paid his last respects to his nephew, Army Ranger Corporal Benjamin Stephen Kopp. Sergeant Slaughter attended the funeral of his nephew on Saturday, August 8. Mr Kopp died in the line of duty in Afghanistan. Kopp was fighting insurgents inside a Taliban safe house on July 10 when he was wounded.

Kopp succumbed to his injuries and passed away on July 18. Kopp had fought on 2 tours into Iraq and was on his first tour of Afghanistan when he was killed.
