Sgt John Russell: Sgt John Russell killed five soldiers (photo)
By Clarencia Cynrae on May 12th, 2009Sgt John Russell, 44, of Sherman, Texas, was in Baghdad, Iraq, when he fired at some army personnel. Russell was at a combat stress clinic, presumably to deal with some problem, when he killed 5 US soldiers. Russell’s weapon was removed from him on Monday, May 12. Russell was taken to the stress clinic, where he argued with the staff. Russell was told to leave and escorted away.
Russell overpowered his escort, and took his weapon. John Russell returned to the clinic where he shot and killed 5 military staff.

Wilburn Russell, 73, the father of Sgt John Russell, said his son suffered stress and broke under his burden. Russell Sr said John told him he was badly treated at the stress clinic. According to Russell Sr, the army broke him.

I don’t care what anyone says.I am SPC Jacob Barton’s father. I can see how someone could just flip out but there’s no excuse for him taking my son. What’s even more messed up is Sgt John Russell has a son Jacob’s age. How would he feel if someone did that to his son? I would NEVER be able to live with myself if I had done something like that to a room full of men who fight right next to me. My son will never get married, buy a home, or even have children. John Russell has been able to all of these things. My son had a right to live.

I am sorry for your loss. I grieve over the incomprehensible tragedies of all the lost lives and ruined dreams of affected people. SPC Jacob Barton died serving his country. He was a great man. Words may not suffice to console you. May you experience peace and healing. God Bless.
