Seth Cravens & Emery Kauanui: Cravens guilty for Kauanui’s death
By Clarencia Cynrae on November 18th, 2008Seth Cravens has been found guilty of the second degree murder of Emery Kauanui. Seth Cravens, 22, was one of the 5 men who attacked Emery Kauanui on May 24, 2007. The 5 men were from La Jolla High School.
The quarrel started when Emery Kauanui spilled a beer on one of the 5 men. Kauanui was attacked outside his mother’s house and given a fractured skull. Kauanui died after 4 days. Seth Cravens was charged and convicted on 4 counts of assault, 1 count of misdemeanour battery and 1 count of making a criminal threat. Seth Cravens’ defense lawyer said Cravens would appeal the guilty verdict.
The other 4 men pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in June. Matthew Yanke, Eric House and Orlando Osuna pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in June 2008. Eric House and Matthew Yanke were sentenced to 210 days in county jail for each man. Orlando Osuna was sentenced to 349 days in jail. Henri “Hank” Hendricks, 22, pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact. Hendricks was sentenced to 90 days in jail.
Seth Cravens will be sentenced on Jan. 12 2009.

Seth Cravens spoke to the court before he was sentenced. Cravens apologized to the family of Emery Kauanui. Cravens said sorry to his family and everybody concerned. Seth Cravens was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
