Scott Kalitta’s Funny Car crashed and caught fire. Scott Kalitta died in the final round for qualifications for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNational at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Scott Kalita was traveling at 300 mph when he crashed.
Scott Kalitta left behind his wife Kathy Kalitta, and 2 sons, Cory Kalitta & Colin Kalitta. Scott Kalitta’s father, Connie Kalitta was an ex driver and team owner known as “The Bounty Hunter.” Scott Kalitta’s cousin, Doug Kalitta, is also a professional race car driver.

The Funny Car Race has been reduced to 1000 feet instead of the usual mile. The cut of 320 feet was fro safety precautions. This ruling was established as a result of Scott Kalitta’s death and its following investigation.
