Sara Granda: Sara Granda bar exam eligibility
By Clarencia Cynrae on July 26th, 2009Sara Granda is a paralyzed law school graduate who wants to take her bar exam. Granda has been banned from achieving her dream of making it to the bar because of a bureaucratic glitch. Granda’s application for the exam on Tuesday, July 28 was unprocessed because California’s Department of Rehabilitation paid her $600 exam fee using a check.
It is not Sara Granda’s fault that her eligibility to take the exam was messed up.
Granda said a State Bar representative told her that she was registered for the exam but later, news broke that her check did not make it in time for her name to be registered for Tuesday’s exam. Sraa Granda has petitioned the California Supreme Court to permit her to take her bar exam on Tuesday.
Sara Granda has been paralyzed since her vehicle accident in 1997. Granda was 17 and one month away from entering her university when she was paralyzed from her neck down. Granda said she had been working hard to study for her bar exam.
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has asked the State Bar to allow Sara Granda to take her exam.
