Updated June 19 2009 – US House impeached federal judge Samuel B Kent. Kent’s case will go to the Senate. Only the Congress can remove Kent from his post and cut his annual salary of $174,000. Meanwhile, Kent is still receiving his salary of $477 per day while he sits in prison.

Updated May 11 2009 – Samuel Kent was convicted and sentenced. Kent was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Samuel Kent also was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay $6,550 in restitution to the secretary, Donna Wilkerson, and case manager, Cathy McBroom. Details can be read on Samuel Kent sentencing here.

Cathy McBroom & Samuel Kent: Kent sued by McBroom

U.S. District Judge Samuel Kent was charged with sex crimes. Samuel Kent was accused by his former case manager, Cathy McBroom. Cathy McBroom alleged that Kent harassed her sexually over a four year period.

Cathy McBroom said she suffered physical sexual harassment starting in 2003 and the last incident was in March 2007. McBroom said Samuel Kent pulled up her blouse and bra and tried to make more contact but they were interrupted. The Judicial Council of the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals investigated her accusations.

U.S. District Judge Samuel Kent is the first federal jurist indicted on sex crimes. Samuel Kent is accused of sexual abuse on two women. Kent lied in failing to disclose he had a long affair with one of the two women he was accused of sexually abusing. Cathy McBroom, Kent’s former secretary and case manager, alleged Kent made undesired sexual advances. Updates in the proceedings against Samuel Kent is at this link.
