Saman Tahir, Sagar Lal Sadarangani & Sameem Sultan arrested on suspicion of sex blackmail
By Clarencia Cynrae on August 31st, 2008Saman Tahir, 19, of Fremont, Sagar Lal Sadarangani, 20, of Fremont and Sameem Sultan, 29, from San Jose are three suspects accused of blackmailing a businessman from Silicon Valley.
The businessman’s name has been with-held by the police. He contacted a sex worker on a social networking website and met her at a Palo Alto hotel room. The prostitute had sex with the businessman. One week later, he received an email with photographs and the blackmail threat demanding $250 K. The suspects threatened to expose the businessman by public humiliation by posting the explicit pictures of sex with the call girl on the internet.
The businessman contacted police who then planned a sting operation. The suspects had the meeting and money was given to them. Police closed in on their getaway car. Los Altos Police Department Dectective Sergeant John Korges said that after they searched a home belonging to one of the suspects, they found more incriminating evidence. There were cameras, cell phones, computers with footage of men in compromising situations with hookers. Police urge victims of blackmail or persons with information on this case to contact them. Call Korges at (650) 947-2770.
The call girls could have been associated with the suspects or the website that provided the social networking could have links with the suspects. The venues were set up with recording equipment or the call girls brought concealed cams into the rooms.
The case is on-going and the mentioned names are only suspects in the alleged case.
