Sam McQuagg: 1965 NASCAR Rookie of the Year McQuagg died
By Therese Lisieux on January 5th, 2009Sam McQuagg, the 1965 NASCAR Rookie of the Year, had died. McQuagg passed away on Saturday, Jan. 3. McQuagg died of cancer.
McQuagg started his racing career in 1950 and entered NASCAR racing in 1962. McQuagg won the NASCAR race named as the Firecracker 400 at Daytona International Speedway. McQuagg’s last NASCAR race was in 1974. McQuagg then worked as a corporate pilot until he retired in 1977.
McQuagg and his wife, Joy McQuagg, traveled across the US in their motor home. They have been married for 54 years.
