Rusty DePass commented on a Facebook report on an escaped gorilla from a zoo in Columbia, South Carolina. Depass wrote that, “I’m sure it’s just one of Michelle’s ancestors – probably harmless.” DePass later apologized for his joke likening the gorilla to Michelle Obama’s ancestors. DePass is a Republican GOP in SC.

The joke has misfired. If that gorilla is Michelle’s ancestor, isn’t another gorilla Rusty’s ancestor? Michelle is a human being and so is Rusty. What is the difference between Michelle’s ancestor and Rusty’s ancestor?
