Rusi P. Taleyarkhan, a professor of nuclear engineering in Purdue University, sued two faculty members for defamation. Rusi P. Taleyarkhan complained that Lefteri Tsoukalas and Tatjana Jevremovic made false and malicious public statements that led to ruin Taleyarkhan and his sonofusion research. Purdue University denied Taleyarkhan’s appeal and removed his professorship in nuclear engineering. Purdue did not believe Taleyarkhan’s claims that he had produced nuclear fusion in experiments.

A committee discovered that Taleyarkhan had faked his research records twice. Purdue University allowed Taleyarkhan to remain as a faculty member but could not be a professor for a minimum of 3 years.
