Ruby, You are my newest hero. I am 230 lbs. and have been dieting for the past 7 months and have lost 14lbs. It’s so hard and when I saw your show this week, I know exactly what you are going through. I intend to keep watching your journey to wellness. I’m determined also, but because I’m not really able to have all the help you do, I’m still going to stay pretty much within my limits. I ate Thanksgiving meal, but am still on maintenance to keep off what I have lost. It’s such a lonely journey, but you help. Keep going, you are an inspiration to us that are taking this journey right beside you.

Hi Ruby; I saw your show and I live in Spartanbur,S.C.. My cousin’s and I have what we call’AWOL’(a way of life) We are all over weight and some of us like me have been told that I will be in a wheelchair if I don’t loose weight and exercise. So we are meeting every first Friday and shareing what we did for the month and new tips on eating. I learned alot from you tonight and would love to become a pen pal of yours if possiable? Hang in there as I say and be happy !!!!!!PB

hey ruby keep your chin up you are looking so good.I know you can do it.You are so strong and strong willed you will do great.
November 30th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Ruby,
I was watching your show tonight for the first time and was listening to you talk about your missing memories. I too have missing memories of my childhood and weight 220 lbs. I have been struggling with my weight for as long as I can remember. I was 230 lbs a few months ago, but managed to lose 10 lbs, not much really in the scheme of things. Anyway, I wish I had the support that you do. Don’t give up since you have somehow found the doctors to help you. Listen to Dr. B. He will help you clear the cobwebs and uncover your demons. I agree with you that there is something inside all us overweight people that we are eating to bury.
Good luck and don’t give up.

Sunday night is “Ruby Night” for me! I will not miss one show… Ruby has such a beautiful face and equally beautiful nature, despite those moments when she is feeling like she cannot go on with this quest to lose her weight. And the pressure of so many people counting on her to do so cannot be easy, but I hope that she prevails. All the best, Ruby!

Ruby, I’m proud of you. I am so overweight. I have been off sugar and white stuff for over 2 weeks and have not lost one pound. I am so discouraged. Does anyone have any idea’s that can help me. I need a friend. I have no support in losing weight. I have a husband who is also overweight but won’t help me or support me. He also says he would love me more if I was thin. I really need help.
December 1st, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Ruby, you are an AWESOME person, I love your personality and your smile. I too am going through my own personal weight struggle, and I am in counseling trying to learn to feel my feelings and not run from them or numb myself with food, drugs or alchol, or anything else, I was always looking for something to fill that void inside myself, the hole in my soul, but now I am learning to no be so self destructive, and I am trying to learn to love myself, find myself and learn to live a better life, and for once in my life, take care of me. I too want to lose weight and sit on a mans lap,
We can do this Ruby, I know we can!! I love your show, you are helping so many people by being honest and real, there are alot of people out there in this great big world with the same issues. I love your show song, powerful words…..I am I can if I think I can!!! yf Jessie

Hey Ruby,
I am 28yrs old and 320lbs from Rome,Georgia. I just wanted to tell you how proud I am that you are succeeding in your journey. I was watching your show tonight about Denny coming back into town and I began to cry. I too had a “Denny” in my life and was never good enough for him. I just wanted to tell you not too lose hope and never just settle for anything. I cried when I heard you say that you wanted to find someone who would love you for you and all of you. I too said those same words as a lay in my mothers lap squalling like a baby when my ” denny” broke my heart. I was glad to see you say that you were not going to take him back. Just be patient and loose the weight for you and no one else. I did find that someone that loved me for me and you will too.
Keep up the good work and I am praying for you.
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Dear Prayerismine, I too am overweight and I too haave found Ruby and am so inspired by her. I am like you in that losing weight is next to impossible for me. The only thing that works with me is Atkins. Go on their website and do the 2 wk. induction diet. I can’t rely on their cookbooks because they use all that expensive foods. I have to stick to basics. I have lost 34 lbs. since May and am just on maintenance until after the holidays. Try it. It really makes you feel so much better too.
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Thanks poundpuppy, I will check it out.
December 5th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Hi Ruby…I hope you get to read these emails yourself. You are such an inspiration to me. I too am overweight, 260lbs. to be exact. I am so sick of being fat, I have all kinds of joint trouble and had a total knee replacement last July. I also am put off when it comes to the exercise but I know it is necessary. You are the reason I am going to “try it again”. I just love your personality you are such a sweet person. Keep on keepin’on and I’ll be checkin’ on ya in the meantime. Love ya lots

Ruby, I watched your show for the first time as a re-run last night. I am in awe of your courage and your motivation. I am a 32 year old mother of toddlers. I am 5′2″ and 240 lbs. I am at my heaviest ever. I cannot even keep up with my kids. I have wanted to diet but could never get the motivation going anymore. Your determination and honesty has made me re-think my situation and I am now officially on my way to finding a diet that works for me and I am going to stick with it.
I know how hard it must be for you to put yourself out there for the whole world to criticize every move you make on television. I personally want to thank you for being such a strong person. You are beautiful inside and out. Thank you for reaching out to me….. God Bless!
December 8th, 2008 at 12:24 am

Dear Ruby: I’ve been watching your show since the beginning and find you to be such an inspiration to everyone that has trouble with weight, confidence, loss of memory or whatever else we may have. You’re
such a beautiful woman, inside and out. Most of my best friends in life have been “large” woman who joked and said I chose them so I would get looked at by the opposite sex because I was thinner than them. That’s not true at all….what I’ve found is that heavier woman tend to be real, honest, true and caring people with a fantastic sense of humor.. which is exactly WHY I chose them to be my close friend. Honey, you’re on your way to a healthier life, a happier life. God be with you in your continued journey into the future. I can only imagine all the physical and mental pain that anguish you at times, but stay strong. You can do it, and you deserve all the good things in life that the weight loss with bring you! You are such a wonderful inspiration to me!! Sincerely, Gail
December 26th, 2008 at 9:54 pm

I love your show. You are such a wonderful person. You are such a beautiful person already. I understand what you are going through. I am so proud of you. I hope I can find it within my self to loose weight just as you have.
You have such great friends. I wish I had that. I have so few friends and cannot depend on anyone except God to help me. You have inspired me. I am going to try to loose weight this year. I have got to do it! I don’t want to die either. I have considered surgery for the obesity, but hate to have to go to that extreme. I wish I could talk with you, but it looks like from your show you have plenty of friends already. If you do have room for one more friend. Please contact me.

January 4th, 2009 at 8:54 pm

You would be a great friend to have. Remember to have faith in yourself! Keep thinking—I BELIEVE!!!!!!!

January 5th, 2009 at 12:12 am
Ruby, you are so blessed to have the support of great friends and the medical help that you have. I live alone and don’t have any friendly support. I’m 253lbs and would do anything to be in your shoes. Go for it and don’t look back. I also don’t remember most of my childhood. I feel so alone. I’m happy for you. Susie
January 5th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Hey Ruby, I am also a woman who can’t remember her childhood and I’m overweight. I also moved around a lot as a child. Everone always says that maybe something happened to you. I really don’t think so. When you live at the same place your whole life you have a constant reminder of your life and the memories. When you move around a lot and don’t have a really close relationship with your siblings or their just quiet like my brother is how are you suppose to remember anything. You also don’t have any life-long friendships. As far as being overweight. It is very hard and stressful as a young child to move often. People come and people go but your one constant is food it will never leave you & you will never leave it. It’s O.K not to remember your childhood I spent a lot of years being scared about it. Don’t be scared. It’s funny when I watched your show tonight I just wanted to pick up the phone like you were one of my girlfriends and tell you all of this.God bless you and what you’re doing with your show is brave and insperational.
January 5th, 2009 at 5:53 am
GO RUBY!! GO RUBY!! You got your groove on, Keep it going.
I would like for you to tell yourself every morning how beautiful you are and repeat
Every Day In Every Way
I’m Getting Better, Better and Better.
This can apply to anything. You are doing FANTASTIC.I wish I could get to know you first hand.
GO RUBY!! GO RUBY!! GO RUBY!!

Ruby, I’m a 66 year old overweight woman. I had the Lap Band Surgery in July, I have lost weight, but it is hard. The surgery is not a magic wand it is just a tool, like your team. If I don’t follow the advise given, I can gain weight and undo what I’ve gone through. It is the exercise that is my down fall, I’ve been watching your show, I love the hope you have given me. I saw were you were walking with all the benches you can break if needed, the mall has benches, so I though I’d give it a try. RUBY !!
it worked !!! I now can walk the mall twice without sitting down, I know most people would laugh at that, but I know you understand, Little do people know how hard it is for us, all my children think I’m lazy, but I’m not, the weight hurts your back, hips, legs and my poor feet won’t even speak to me.
Please keep up the fight as I feel I have a sister in my world that really understands, and you have no clue how brave you are to be out in front of the world and fighting a battle few people don’t understand. My weight was 270 I now weigh 227.3
I need to be at 150. I love the weigh chart you do and will be putting this up for myself as well. Yes, for once I see a real person in the same boat as myself, none of thses thin people telling me I can do it they did. To see you struggle, cry and even smile, puts me in the place I need to be with all the incredible energy you pour out. You are truly my HERO !!!! I know you don’t know me, but I feel as if we are connected in our battle. Please add me to your Fat Night.. LOL

Ruby Girl! I’m so proud of you! I know you are going on a rough journey, but we are here to cheer you on. You are so brave to put yourself out there like you do. I was especially thrilled with your show when SCAD designed you some clothes. I was in Savannah last May to watch my granddaughter graduate with her masters in architecture, so I so identify with you. I live in SC and that makes you seem like one of my neighbors. Just know we are pulling for you. I have lost 24 lbs. now and intend to keep it up. I’ll be watching you and praying for you. Love you!

Dear Sweet Ruby:
WE all know your frustration, and there by the Grace of God go all of us and WE all know it too.
When we turn to food to fill the void where love is supposed to be for ourself we just get fatter and we all know that too.
We are with you in this journey honey, your crankiness, and anger about not being able to turn to your drug of choice, we are there too – all of us, honest.
Like you, Ruby, and for many of us, the trauma too painful to remember, but until we unlock it, face that demon, it will wait for us and we have to face it to be free. You will never be alone, anymore
We are praying for you!!!! Please, take omega fish oil – it’s vitamin D and we never have enough – it will help your joints as well and not hurt you:)
Pam, your new friend in Toronto:)

Ruby, I have watched your show several times, though not consistently. Tonight I watched the episode where you learned you’d lost 104 lbs. CONGRATS ON YOUR DETERMINATION, PERSERVERANCE, OPENNESS AND LOVE OF SELF. In September, I started my journey determined to get healthy for me–No diets,No fads, No quick fixes. I weighed 285 pounds. I was diagnosed as hypertensive in October. I refused meds, seriously changed my eating habits and became more focused on my walking program. As of this writing I am at 250.5 lbs. Though it seems hard at times, I realize that losing weight naturally is the way to go. Also, I am finally facing the old memories of abuse, and slowing forgiving those who abused me throughout my life — mostly men. Most of my childhood memories are nonexistent, but I believe they will return to me as I too am victorious over this weight problem. I praying for your continued success and total emotional healig. YOU GO, GIRL!!!!!!

RUBY, I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT I LOVE YOU.I WATCHED EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOUR EPISODES AND WILL CONTINUE WHEN THE NEW ONE COME.I AM STRUGGLING WITH MY WEIGHT.I AM 269LBS.I HAVE DISTANCED MYSELF FROM SOME OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS BECAUSE I CAN’T HAVE ONE CONVERSATION WITH OUT MY STEP MOM CALLING ME FAT.WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE TO BE SO STUPID?MY BOYFRIEND SAYS THAT HE LIKES ME LIKE THIS. I GET UPSET BECAUSE HE ISN’T THE ONE THAT HAS TO CARRY THIS WEIGHT AROUND OR HEAR FAMILY MEMBERS CALL HIM FAT.I AM SO UNHAPPY BUT WHEN I WATCH YOUR SHOW; IT GIVES ME HOPE AND LET’S ME KNOW THAT NOT EVERYONE ARE IDIOTS.ALSO I HAD A DOCTOR THAT I WOULD GO TO AND SHE EVEN HAD THE NERVE TO SAY THAT I WAS FAT NOT THAT I WAS OVERWEIGHT BUT THAT I WAS FAT.PEOPLE ACT LIKE I DON’T KNOW THAT. I WAS SO PROUD OF YOU WHEN YOU LOST WEIGHT.I JUST HAVE TO SET MY MIND TO LOSING WEIGHT, FIND ME A GOOD SUPPORT GROUP AND MOTIVATION.I TELL MYSELF LIFE IS ALREADY SHORT AS IT IS AND BY ME CARRYING THIS WEIGHT IT IS MAKING IT EVEN SHORTER. CAN’T WAIT UNTIL JULY TO SEE YOUR NEXT EPISODES.

I’ve always been “heavy” & have paid the price for it all my life. I’m watching you right now, & missing your Dad as you do, there are a lot a guys that will love you just the way you are.. I’m one of those guys. So just know where out here pulling for you on those days that pass like a 100 mle per hour train, & those that seem like time stands still. SMILE more Ruby girl, seeing tears breaks our hearts. MIKE Oh, my 330 just crash’z me

Dear Ruby,
You must be the stongest person on this planet. I know what you are going through after losing your Dad. I lost mine 19 years ago and it still hurts everyday. On top of that loss my husband was killed in the line of duty 2 years ago. My weight dropped because I would not eat. When after a year, and I came out of my shock, my weight skyrocketed. I am really having trouble getting it off now, and you my dear one are my inspiration. I wish you all the luck in the world, you deserve it.

I think your beautiful!
September 6th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
HI RUBY,
THE FIRST THING I’D LIKE TO SAY IS “YOU” ARE SOOOOO SPECIAL! WHAT A WONDERFUL PERSONALITY YOU HAVE! I’VE WATCHED YOU FAITHFULLY EACH WEEK AND REALLY ADMIRED YOUR DETERMINATION IN DOING YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY WITHOUT HAVING SURGERY. YOU ARE SUCH AND INSPIRATION TO OTHERS. I HAD THE ROUX-EN-Y GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY THE END OF FEBRUARY 2008 AND I’VE LOST FROM 282 TO 140 POUNDS. I WAS ABOUT TO BUST OUT OF SIZE 22-24 AND NOW I AM IN SIZE 8-10. MY LIFE HAS CHANGED IN SO MANY WAYS FOR THE BETTER. YOU WERE TALKING ON YOUR SEASON FINALE ABOUT KEEPING ON KEEPING ON NO MATTER WHAT – PLEASEEEEEEEEE CONTINUE TO DO THAT! TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE!!! I KNOW THE ROAD HAS BEEN HARD BUT YOU HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE THAT BELIEVE YOU WILL DO IT AND THAT ARE REALLY PRAYING FOR YOU. I AM ONE OF THEM! YOU HAVE TO FEEL SO MUCH BETTER ALREADY IN SO MANY WAYS TOO! I’M SURE YOU CAN DO THINGS NOW THAT YOU COULDN’T BEGIN TO EVEN DO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER. JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU “ARRIVE” AT YOUR GOAL. YOU WON’T BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE IN HOW MUCH BETTER YOU WILL FEEL. JUST THINK HOW MUCH HEALTHIER YOU’RE GOING TO BE ALSO. I HARDLY EVER HAVE A DAY WHERE I FEEL BAD ANYMORE. I RARELY HURT OR FEEL DEPRESSED EITHER AND I USED TO HURT ALL OF THE TIME. I’VE BEEN MORE ACTIVE IN THE PAST YEAR THAN I’VE BEEN IN MANY YEARS. THE MORE THE WEIGHT CAME OFF – THE MORE MOVING I’VE DONE. I JUST CAN’T SIT STILL VERY LONG ANYMORE. BEFORE THE WEIGHT LOSS I WAS PRETTY MUCH A COUCH POTATO. “LIFE IS FOR THE LIVING – SO YOU KEEP ON LIVING GIRL”!!! I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOMETIME. I’M YOUR #1 FAN FROM BRUNSWICK AND NOT THAT FAR FROM YOU. BE SURE TO EMAIL ME IF YOU’RE EVER COMING THIS WAY AND HAVE THE TIME TO MEET. I’LL SHOW YOU SOME BEFORE AND AFTER PICS OF MYSELF THAT YOU WON’T BELIEVE. PEOPLE HARDLY RECOGNIZE ME ANYMORE. I’VE CHANGED MY LOOKS ALOT AS FAR AS THE CLOTHES THAT I WEAR, HAIRSTYLES, A MORE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR, ETC. I FEEL THE BEST I’VE FELT IN YEARS! GOD BLESS YOU RUBY AND I HAVE ALL THE CONFIDENCE IN THE WORLD THAT YOU WILL KEEP ON LOSING – YOU ARE A WINNER! ! !
September 10th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
