Romain Mesnil won a silver medal at 2007 Athletics World Championships in Osaka. Mesnil used to be sponsored by Nike but his contract expired in 2008. Mesnil disclosed he did not receive an offer for renewal. The French pole vaulter decided to hold his own run through Paris.

Mesnil videotaped himself running naked through Paris, the City of Lights. The French pole vaulter ran proudly holding onto his pole. One of Mesnil’s motives was guessed to be attracting attention to himself and his plight.
