Robert Stewart nursing home shooting: Stewart nursing home shooting
By Clarencia Cynrae on March 30th, 2009Robert Stewart, 45, of Moore County, was the gunman who shot residents in the nursing home, Pinelake Health and Rehab, in North Carolina. Stewart killed 7 residents in the nursing home, killed a nurse and wounded a few other people. Stewart was believed to have shot the residents and nurse on Sunday, March 29.
Stewart has been arrested. Stewart was charged with 8 counts of first degree murder and one count of felony assault of an officer. Stewart is not a patient of the nursing home. Neither is he an employee. Stewart is not a relative to any residents in the nursing home.
The dead victims were identified as residents Tessie Garner, 88; Lillian Dunn, 89; Jessie Musser, 88; Bessie Hendrick, 78; John Goldston, 78; Margaret Johnson, 89; Louise Decker, 98. The nurse, of the nursing home, who was killed was named as Jerry Avent.
The case is under investigation.

Sue Griffin, who divorced Robert Stewart in 2001, said her ex husband had violent tendencies. Sue Griffin had no idea why her ex husband would shoot residents in the nursing home. Griffin said she was unaware of any reason why Stewart would gfo to that nursing home.
Police suspect Stewart’s present wife or estranged wife may be working in that nursing home. The shooting may have been a domestic related issue. Police said Robert Stewart was recently separated from his wife. Police officers do not know if the wife was working at the nursing home at the time of the shootings.
