Robert “Joe” Halderman is accused of trying to blackmail David Letterman for $2 million. Patty Montet is the ex wife of Halderman. Montet said her ex husband loves his children. Montet apologizes and says she is sorry to read about the extortion.

What drove Halderman to become involved in an alleged extortion? Montet and Halderman divorced in 2004. Montet moved to southwest Fort Collins. Halderman had to support his former wife Patty Montet and his children. Halderman’s court ordered financial obligations amounted to nearly $6000 per month. Halderman has to keep paying this for 3 years.

Halderman and Montet’s kids are 18 years old and 11 years old. The elder will be entering college soon so the education fees may be a concern for Halderman if he is ordered by the divorce judge to pay up.

Halderman and Montet sold their marital home and the proceeds were split between them.
