By Clarencia Cynrae on April 5th, 2009

Robert Baranaskas, 61, of Northport, crashed in his World War II airplane. Baranaskas was the pilot and sole occupant in his Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. Baranaskas was practising for an air show when he went down in the sea off Smith Point Park.

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is a single engine fighter plane. Witnesses at the beach saw the plane hit the sea. Some people frantically took boats out to search for the pilot in the plane’s debris. Baranaskas could not be found. The authorities are now searching for Baranaskas.
