Richard Rodriguez: Richard Rodriguez high speed car chase video

By Therese Lisieux on May 14th, 2009

On Wednesday afternoon, May 13, police caught a suspect after a high speed car chase. Aerial video footage showed an officer approach the un-identified suspect. There were three suspects in the car. This suspect exited the car from the driver’s side so he could have been Richard Rodriguez, unless the men in the car switched drivers at some point of time.

The officer kicked his foot on the suspect’s head. The officer was pointing his weapon at the suspect and was trying to hold him down or threaten him to stay down. A second officer came and knead on the suspect while delivering some elbow blows to the kidney. A third officer ran up with a tracking dog. The first officer and this third officer hi-fived each other on the successful apprehension of the suspect.

The driver was Richard Rodriguez, 23, of El Monte, California. Rodriguez was arrested on charges of felony evading, parole violation, obstruction of police and gang enhancement. There were two other men in Rodriguez’s car. During the chase, one suspect left the car and surrendered to police. After some distance, a second suspect exited the car and was caught by police. The third suspect in the car was also caught.

Richard Rodriguez was a gang member. Police said the suspects were making gang signs during the high speed chase. It was not elaborated on how the signs were shown during a high speed chase.
