By Clarencia Cynrae on April 4th, 2009Richard Poplawski, 22, is accused of shooting dead 3 police officers and wounding 2 other officers. Police responded to a domestic dispute call Saturday, April 4. Poplawski opened fire from his home in Pittsburgh.
Poplawski fired gunshots from the front window of his ranch house at 1016 Fairfield St. Poplawski was armed with a rifle and pistol. Poplawski held police at bay for almost 4 hours. Police negotiators discussed with him before Poplawski finally agreed to surrender.
A neighbor said Poplawski’s house had domestic calls in the past. Ms Johann Devinney said she saw officers dead on the porch of Poplawski’s home so her husband Donald called 911.
Poplawski telephoned his friend, Edward Perkovic, while he was in the standoff with police. Poplawski was wearing a bullet proof vest. Poplawski may have been injured in his shoulder and thigh as he was seen bleeding in those areas when he surrendered to police.
Richard Poplawski went to school at Immaculate Conception elementary. Poplawski continued his schooling at North catholic High School. Poplawski joined the Marine Corps but quit during basic training stage because he wanted to be with his girlfriend. They split and Poplawski moved to Florida, where he worked as a glazier. Poplawski returned home to Pittsburgh in 2006. Poplawski lived with his mother and grandmother.
Richard Poplawski told his friend he was probably going to die. Poplawski then asked Perkovic to relay the message to his mother and friends to tell them he loved them.

Timothy McManaway was shot in his hand. Another officer broke his leg on a fence.
