Rex Johnson, head of tourism, has resigned. Rex Johnson was criticized by the board of the Hawaii Tourism Authority for forwarding racist, sexist and porn emails. Rex Johnson’s move to resign was accepted by the HTA. They spent 75 minutes hearing testimonies from 18 supporters as well as critics. Rex Johnson had worked for 6 years as the head of the HTA.

The state audit found porn emails on his government computer and his salary was cut by $40K and it was down to $200 K p.a. This happened in Aug. 2008. Rex Johnson apologized. The board did not hear the end of the matter as it became known that Rex Johnson received and forwarded racist and sexist emails on his official computer. The Governor of Hawaii then suggested Rex Johnson should resign.
