Ramakrishnan, Steitz and Yonath win the Chemistry Nobel Prize. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, is a US scientist at the Medical Research Council’s Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge. Thomas Steitz is from Yale University. Ada Yonath is from Israel, at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. Ramakrishnan, Steitz and Yonath showed how cells used genetic code (DNA) to make protein.

Ramakrishnan, Steitz and Yonath will share the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, valued at 10m Swedish kronor (£900,000).
