Rachel Ward: Rachel Ward died (photos/video)
By Clarencia Cynrae on January 14th, 2009Rachel Ward, 20, an undergrad from Durham University, was walking back from a party at Val d’Isere when she died. Rachel Ward sent her last text message at 1 am Tuesday morning to say she was lost. Ward had left the party called “On The Piste” to walk back alone. Police suspected Ward fell into the river and died of hypothermia.
It was dark when Rachel Ward walked off alone in the wrong direction for half an hour before her friends received her text. Ward was a hockey player studying Natural Sciences at Durham University. Ward had won a Duke of Edinburgh gold medal. Ward was a valued member of her community.
Days ago, James Atkinson, 21, also a student of Durham University, was killed in the Alps. Rob Gauntlett, the youngest Briton to climb Mt Everest, also died in the same climbing accident.
