Rachel Joy Scott: Rachel Joy Scott after death (photo)

By Clarencia Cynrae on April 20th, 2009

Rachel Joy Scott lived from August 5, 1981 to April 20, 1999. Scott was the first victim in the Columbine High School massacre. Twelve students, a teacher and two gunmen died in the Columbine tragedy.

Rachel Scott’s family did not let her death pass by in vain. Rachel’s Challenge was formed as a national school outreach program to prevent teen violence. Rachel’s father, Darrell Scott, and brother, Craig Scott, are speakers for Rachel’s Challenge.

Rachel’s mother, Beth Nimmo, is an author and speaker for Rachel Joy Scott Ministries. This is an effort to carry on the memory of Rachel by spreading the Christian message.

Craig Scott was present at the Columbine massacre but he escaped unhurt even as his two friends, who were under the table with him, were fatally shot.

Rachel Joy Scott’s memory and work continues after death.

Darrell Scott and Beth Nimmo are divorced and work independently in their separate efforts.

Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, the assailants in the Columbine massacre, are also remembered and written about here.
