Updated April 21 – Philip Markoff pleaded not guilty in court today. Police had searched his home and found a semiautomatic handgun, ammunition and plastic ties.

Police said they suspected Markoff had gambling debts and committed robbery to pay off debts.

Phil Markoff and Megan McAllister were traveling in a car to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut when police pulled him over.

Megan McAllister has vigorously defended her fiance, Phil Markoff. McAllister said, “All I have to say to you is Philip is a beautiful person inside and out and could not hurt a fly!” McAllister insisted they were having their wedding in August.  Megan McAllister’s response can be read at the link. Philip Markoff Megan McAllister: Markoff McAllister wedding website & photos

Philip Markoff is engaged to be married to his fellow medical student girlfriend, Megan McAllister. Markoff and McAllister had planned their wedding to be held later this year in August, 2009.

Philip Markoff lives in Quincy, 10 miles south of Boston. Markoff spent his childhood in Sherrill, NY. Markoff attended SUNY Albany as an undergraduate. He met McAllister on a work assignment.

Phil Markoff has a rented apartment in High point. Markoff lives in a rental apartment in the complex. A resident of the apartment complex, John Uva, said Markoff looked like an average man but he felt uneasy about Markoff.

Police suspect Markoff may have been preying on sex workers. The authorities are asking for victims to come forward to help them in this case. The Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said they will help victims who come forward.

Markoff will face more charges for a kidnapping and robbery that took place 4 days before the murder of Julissa Brisman. This happened in a luxurious Boston hotel. The victim was an exotic dancer who advertised her services online.

Before Brisman was murdered, an exotic dancer who advertised on Craigslist was robbed in Westin Hotel, in Boston, on April 10. This dancer, 29, was tied up and robbed of $800 cash, her debit card and $250 worth of American Express gift cards.

Trisha Leffler, 29, was described as the prostitute who was robbed on April 10 in a room at the Westin Copley Place hotel. Leffler refused to describe in detail what happened to her. Trisha Leffler said she was glad Markoff was arrested and off the streets.

On April 14 or 15, Brisman was robbed by the suspect. Brisman resisted his attempts to handcuff her using plastic zip ties. Markoff allegedly shot her.

A third victim who was robbed was in Rhode Island hotel. She was also a sex worker. Last Thursday, on April 16, a prostitute was robbed in Holiday Inn Express, of Warwick, Rhode Island. The hooker had used Craigslist to advertise her service.

Julissa Brisman’s family friend, Mark Pine, pointed out that the family was glad a suspect has been caught. They are reminded that nothing can bring back Julissa.

Phil Markoff or Philip Marcoff, 22, a student of Boston University, has been charged with the death of Julissa Brisman. Phil Markoff/ Marcoff had no known criminal record. Markoff/ Marcoff was a pre-medical studies student at Boston University. Markoff/ Marcoff was traveling along I-95 when police stopped him and arrested him. Markoff/ Marcoff will appear in court Tuesday April 21.

Police have been working around the clock to process electronic data evidence and forensic evidence. They said they had put Markoff/ Philip Marcoff (photos at link) under surveillance for days before making the move to arrest him.

Julissa Brisman, 26, of NYC, was found dead in the doorway of her hotel room in Marriot Copley. Brisman was fatally shot. Brisman was suspected to have been killed by a “Craigslist Killer” who preyed on women who advertised their services on Craigslist.

Police have suspected Brisman may be the victim of an attempted robbery. Another woman in the Westin Copley Hotel was robbed of her debit card and $800 cash. Both women advertised massage services on Craigslist.

Julissa Brisman’s friends claimed they were unaware she advertised her services as a masseuse.

Police said they have surveillance tapes of a person of interest. He is a young blond man with groomed looks.
