By Clarencia Cynrae on July 19th, 2009

Pfc Bowe Bergdahl, 23, of Hailey, was on duty in Afghanistan, when he went missing on June 30. Bergdahl belongs to 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, station of Fort Richardson, Alaska.

Bergdahl was videotaped sitting cross legged, wearing light blue attire and having a meal. Bergdahl answered questions in cautious, measured words. Bergdahl talked about his girlfriend, grandparents and how he missed home. The audio of the tape has been edited. The mouth and audio are not moving in synchrony.

The Taliban has sent a friendly message as it used a common, friendly approach in showing the video. The meal is one of the gestures of friendship across all divides.

Ralph Peters, a military analyst for Fox News, said Pfc Bowe Bergdahl should not be portrayed as a hero. Peters gave his opinion that Bergdahl may be a liar.
