Peter Gabriel: Gabriel boycotts Oscar performance (photo)

By Therese Lisieux on February 16th, 2009

Peter Gabriel withdrew himself from the Oscars performances on Feb 22. Gabriel will boycott performing but will still attend the Oscars. Gabriel wants to protest about the best original song contenders being shortened to 65 seconds each.

Gabriel said that songwriters deserve a place in the ceremony and 65 seconds is too brief.

Peter Gabriel is nominated with Thomas Newman for their original song “Down To Earth”, which was featured in Disney’s “WALL-E”. Gabriel, from UK, said he will attend the Oscar Awards but will not perform. Gabriel said he hoped a gospel choir will take his vacated slot in the performance.
